Blog: Tuesday Mornings

Every Tuesday at 6:45 a.m. I get to meet with a group of 15 guys from my church. With exception of a couple of them, they are all men I didn’t know before this group started meeting a couple months ago. They are great people. A couple of them are fresh out of college, a couple of them are high level executives, there are salesmen, attorneys, professional athletes, and a T-shirt designer (at least I think that’s what he does. I should ask.)

Have you ever had a part of your life that was missing and you weren’t aware of it until you found it? I’ve never had a weekly early morning group, so I never knew what it could contribute to my life. I have found that an hour a week with these guys, being deliberate about focusing on what’s important, and caring for each others’ needs, can change the trajectory of an entire week. And it does it every week.

The leader of the group says brilliant things. Something he said that stuck with me today is that when we are at home or work, we can’t experience the life God wants for us if we spend all our time thinking and worrying about the future. We can’t meet God in our future, not because God isn’t there, but because we aren’t. Our job is to live out our calling each day. That’s my goal for today. I would make it my goal for tomorrow, but I just found out I’m not supposed to do that. Just today. That’s where I am.
